EARTH DAY 2022

It is Earth Day today. April 22nd. When we should at least make it a point to remember the Supreme Being that sustains all of Humanity and all other Life on Earth. That said, I'd like to pose this question to those who read this post.

EARTH - Do we really know her?

Groundwater: Last Bastion of Hope#

As surface water sources deplete in quality and quantity due to Humanity’s blatant disregard for water, we are being pushed even more to consider tapping the reservoir hidden deep within the ground – our Groundwater. Our last bastion of Hope.

Groundwater constitutes 99% of all liquid freshwater on Earth. It supplies about half of all global drinking water, 40% of irrigated agriculture and about 1/3 of industry water requirement.

The theme for World Water Day 2022 is Groundwater: Making the Invisible Visible. It may seem reassuring to have groundwater available to us by making it visible and available for our use, especially for people without access to safe water through this theme for World Water Day 2022. But let us not forget that we are setting out to withdraw even more from the Fixed Deposit account of our Waters.

The Talking Eagles

On the evening of 12th February 2022 as my daughter, husband and I stood chest deep in the sea in the Langkawi waters, two White Bellied Sea Eagles came flying. They were some distance apart from each other; perhaps a 100m or so. All of a sudden, they began to talk - yes , TALK. Loud and clear, for a few minutes. it was the very first time I was listening to eagles talk to each other. I have heard them call out many times announcing their arrival over these past seven years. But talking to each other? No, not at all.

The Talking Eagles flew over this beach and waters.

Oh, of Eagles!

First one, then two, then six, gradually making their appearance. They were followed by fifteen other eagles. All within an hour of the initial sighting of the first six eagles. The first six were either soaring into the sky or gliding. The next fifteen eagles that we saw came swooping down suddenly into the waters from different directions. They were attracted by feed thrown into the waters by a neighboring boat. After that boat sped off these eagles hung around by perching themselves amongst the Rhizophora mangrove trees. It was awesome to see them at close quarters. The eagles comprised Brahminy Kites (reddish brown eagles) and White Bellied Sea Eagles This was in Langkawi two weeks ago. We were on a boat touring the Kilim Geo – forest Park.

Later that same evening as we stood relaxing and talking in the sea, another five Brahminy Kite eagles appeared. One, two, three at a time.

Reflecting on the Lotus Journey/Compassion for Earth Project, Thaipusam 2022

Fifteen years ago, as the chariot bearing the Deity Lord Murugan left the High Street Mariamman Temple on a 11km journey, I walked that route as well. Climbing those 272 stairs up into Batu Caves. I began the walk with the chariot. I did that walk for three consecutive years. Praying as I walked that I would carry out what the cosmos had intended for me to do with regards to the Sacred Lotus. It had been five years since I had been cosmically connected to the Lotus. Little did I know then what a long testing walk the Lotus journey would turn out to be. That it was not going to be just educating folks and creating and conserving lotus ponds. That it is important that folks relate spiritually to the lotus ponds and to the Earth.

I am reflecting today on Thaipusam Day, twenty years hence and into the 21st year of the Lotus Journey. How do we make the Lotus Journey into a project without loosing sight of the most critical element of that cosmic intervention.

The Earth Being and You

For many years I travelled back and forth on an interstate highway; driving between my own home and my parents home. I was a primary caregiver then to my aged parents. Many a time I had to drive through blinding thunderstorms. Hardly able to see the road in front, even with my car wipers on maximum. It was scary. Somehow I was guided to do the following:-

I called upon the Earth Being - in my heart - to keep my car firmly on the road as I drove on it. And to also keep all the other vehicles driving alongside me, firmly on the road as they sped by. It was comforting. I always arrived home safe.

Many of you may be driving through either floodwaters or icy, slippery roads at some point, in different parts of the world. Think of the Earth Being and you will be safe.

EARTH - Do we know Her?

EARTH – Do we know Her? I mean really know Her?

Most of us think and know of Earth as a planet. Yes, as Our planet. And Our Home. But, most of us do not really know her. Nor do we relate to Her. How can we indeed? When we do not know Her. She is much more than the planet upon which we live. She has a consciousness. A Higher Consciousness. She is a Supreme Being.

The Global South has a unique power in its hands

Now that COP 26 is over, the Global North and Global South are out to see who will deliver on their commitments and pledges. The Global North will continue to control the World as it always did historically. But at the same time, we cannot get embroiled in squabbles like children do. Time and energy are precious.

However, the Global South has a unique power in its hands to change the course of events for the benefit of all Humanity. It is whether it is aware of it and unleashes it at the right time. Meantime let us start with saying at our dining tables at Home "It is enough"...

COP 26 has begun...

COP 26 has begun. I listened live to the key speeches at the Opening Ceremony, I read daily online some of the posts on the COP 26 website and I watch the daily BBC news coverage with some measure of anxiety, and yet with Hope. All in the comfort of my Home in Malaysia.

But not without feeling wistful, “Oh how wonderful it must be, to be in the midst of all that energy that is determining the course of our beloved planet EARTH.”

“The Compassion for Earth Being Project” (THE Lotus Project) – A Project of Hope for Humanity

For the past 20 years I have been on a journey. That happened due to cosmic intervention. There was much that I was meant to discover, but I just did not know what it was all going to be about. That of course, was way back in October 2001. 7th October 2001 to be exact.

I called the journey ‘The Lotus Journey’ over these past 20 years - as central to that journey was a sacred blossom - The Sacred Lotus. Which I embraced deeply. I cultivated it. I studied it. And I created a garden sanctuary around the sacred lotus. Much happened over the 20 years - in my garden, in my home and in my life. It seemed to all be directed by the energy of this sacred blossom. A year plus ago, in July 2020 (due to the pandemic), I could finally sit down to focus, compile and make sense of my findings of the past 20 years - The Lotus Journey. It became clearer – as to what the cosmic forces had intended for me to do. Though, from many, many, years earlier I already had a hunch as to what I was meant to do. Hence the creation of the www.dayanidhiearth.com website.

As 2021 dawned and progressed, I realised it was time however to call the Lotus Journey, instead “The Lotus Project”. It needed significant external funding – and teams of people on it. There would need to be a core project team. My earnings from earlier years and my husband’s unwavering and multidimensional support that had thus far sustained the Lotus Journey for 20 years would not any longer be sufficient.

Very recently however, I realised a more appropriate name for the Lotus Project was “The Compassion for Earth Project”. It was the very reason I was inspired to create the Dayanidhi Earth website way back in 2009. It reflected everything I believed in and had lived by. The Sacred Lotus would still be central to the project. It would be the driving force. And it would be THE Lotus Project. A deeply meaningful project – for the evolution of Humanity.

Incidentally, today, 7th October 2021 is the commencement of my 21st year with the Sacred Lotus. I begin my 21st year driven by the spiritual power of the Sacred Lotus on “The Compassion for Earth Project”(THE Lotus Project) – A Project of Hope for Humanity.

A Door into a New Era for Humanity, and the Need for a Paradigm Shift - Letter written by an Earth Carer (an elder woman) to a younger woman

Dear Sue Ann,

Re: Why the Pandemic happened and Our Future Life on Earth.

Glad you phoned the other day… and that you want to reflect on what I shared. That you also wish to share that with your family and friends.

I sincerely believe the pandemic was brought about by cosmic – divine forces in cohort with the “Earth Being”. To teach Humanity a lesson – for having behaved so terribly! Ahh? How come? Because Humanity by and large (except the poor including the Indigenous Peoples amongst us), has been living unbothered about our impacts upon Earth. The pace, the mobility that we had before the pandemic, was great for many. Those who saw the economic benefits of that scenario. The security it gave them, the ‘high’ it brought, the fun, the good times of travel, etc. Most people choose to stress upon the fact that it paid our bills. It certainly did. But that is relative depending on each of our appetite’s – our insatiable appetites. And for how long were we going to be living the way we had done before the pandemic? Not long – from an environmentalist’s (my) view point - before life on Earth becomes unbearable.

Fact is, our living has not been sustainable. While most “lived it up”, resources were being heavily consumed. Everything, yes everything - the food we eat, clothes we wear (natural fibres-cotton, wool, silk, flax and the synthetics used to make them), the building material of our homes (wood, stone, sand, cement -main component is the limestone from our limestone hills), of our roads (bitumen and tar), the petrol we use to drive our vehicles – all this is extracted from the EARTH. And these resources are finite. Not infinite as most people believe.

Furthermore, as we spun our economies like crazy, we polluted our air, waters, oceans and soils. And raised global temperatures in the process. That it has caused significant climatic changes. And is creating unprecedented catastrophic fires and floods. July - August 2021 is a case in point for globally devastating forest fires – in USA and Canada, France, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Algeria and Siberia. And devastating floods in Western Europe, India, China and Japan. All occurring within the same period. On virtually every continent. It is serious.

We are at a point where our environment is not clean, and not safe too for human health and human safety, in many places worldwide. It is going to get worse – unless we all strive and work together, to make significant changes to the way we had lived before.

By the way, we are in Phase Code Red for Humanity (Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary General, 9th August 2021). It is now or never – to ensure Human survival into the 21st century. A paradigm shift is absolutely vital.

However, now that we are quiet and virtually physically still at Home there is a chance for recovery. But it needs time – years in fact. Many changes are needed. Amongst them, airline travel has to be significantly limited – proportioned – allocated for each region and country. Train travel is good. Or we can drive locally and certainly walk, or cycle if we want to travel for and on a holiday. This will all slow us down. That indeed is the idea.

Think of the phase of lockdown brought by the pandemic as “A Door into a New Era for Humanity”. Incidentally of “Hope for the Future”. For Life on Earth.

Love,

Aunty Thaya, “Steering Compassion for the Earth Being and All Sentient Beings”

28th August 2021.

Note: I have known Sue Ann since she was a little girl of 7 years old. She is one of my daughter’s good friends. She had phoned me, troubled with all that had taken place with the pandemic. This letter to her was sent via whatsapp on 28th August 2021.

Reduce flights from 2021

Just 45 minutes ago, I witnessed and heard, at close quarters, the first aircraft descending over my home in more than a year. I could see the massiveness of the aircraft and all four jet engines burning fuel. Folks on board would probably be feeling -

“At long last we have gone on an air flight”.

I too am looking forward to going on an air flight. But to a distant place like Europe. When can it, and will it happen, I do not know.

It seems quite some time - about two years plus, when I took a flight - just to Singapore and to Ho Chi Minh City. And to a distant place (India) it was four years ago.

A Boeing 747 Jumbo Jet’s four engines burn about 10 to 11 tonnes of fuel an hour when in cruise. This equates to about 1 gallon (approximately 4 litres) of fuel every second. A maximum of 238,604 litres of fuel can be carried by a Boeing 747 Jumbo Jet. And that can cover a range of about 7,790 nautical miles.

It is not just the CO2 emitted by flights that burn fossil fuel (jet gasoline) that is of concern. Rather there are other concerns; of the impacts of the water vapour emitted to the ozone layer and to the stratosphere.

All the flying of the past cannot continue based on jet gasoline use. There needs to be a reduction on numbers of flights going forward into the 21st century. IF we are serious about Climate action globally. While air travel is not the only and not a main contributor to Climate Change, it does have an impact collectively.

Thayanithi Kulenthran, Steering Compassion for Earth and All Sentient Beings.

I have seen aircraft flying over my neighbourhood only in recent months with the pandemic, but they were so high up in the sky and on an ascending flight.

2021 - The Unprecedented Catastrophic Fires of US/Canada, the Western European and China -Henan Floods, the Greece and Turkish Fires. Are we drawing the right conclusions?

It is so easy to cast the blame upon other factors, but ourselves. That flood forecasting alerts of the government did not warn in time, that mitigation measures were not adequately provided for much earlier.

All of these are reactive responses to the dire problem of climate change and its resultant impacts. While we needed to address it yesterday and before it gets far worse, we are still not getting to the root of the problem. We refuse to admit to it, let alone accept it. That we and we alone – Humankind - have been responsible. For wanting more of everything we set our sights on – money, the built environment, cars, food, clothing, travel, entertainment, etc.

The root cause of Climate Change is our insatiable appetite and the disquiet of the human mind. Which has driven past consumption levels and developmental trends and levels – on economies based on fossil fuels.

But when we shift towards economies based on renewable energy, will the climatic chaos settle?

It is unlikely - in my humble opinion.

Malaysians, our 3rd Movement Control Order and Compassion for Each Other

IF there was ever a time when Malaysians rose in solidarity for each other, it is now in July 2021 with the Enhancement of the 3rd Movement Control Order. Disregarding race or religion, many Malaysians are reaching out to help each other through setting up food banks, organising food deliveries and giving cash donations. This has come about as so many amongst those in the lowest and middle income levels have lost jobs, their savings if any depleted. They are unable to put food on the table and are raising white flags in desperate appeal for help – the consequence of a collapsing economy due to the current political landscape and the national management of the COVID 19 pandemic.

A collapsing economy aside, the pandemic has created a surge of compassion amongst grassroots Malaysians for each other.

Earth Consciousness, the Human Psyche and Ecosystem Restoration

Each time I unwrap a food package I receive or have purchased, I am troubled with the amount of solid waste generated in the process. Unless I personally do something to prevent the waste. Take for instance the delicious fruit cake that arrived for Father’s Day. It was wrapped in aluminium foil with a ribbon around it. While the loaf of bread I had bought at a bakery was packed in a clear plastic bag as the loaves cooled down. The aluminium foil while it can be reused and recycled, will eventually become a non biodegradable waste. Similarly the plastic bag used for the loaf of bread. What we need to do is to deliver cakes in a reusable container, hence minimising waste generated. And to bring along a container to bring home freshly baked bread from a bakery - avoiding the use of the plastic bag.

But why am I bothered to this extent? Because I keep seeing the NASA image of the EARTH I have posted on the tree outside my home and I feel a pain in my heart.

As long as we continue to generate waste, the ecosystems we restore are not going to be in a pristine state. Sooner or later the waste we generate is going to find its way to these ecosystems.

The Human Psyche and Ecosystem Restoration for 2021-2030

World Environment Day 2021 celebrates the launch of the UN Decade 2021-2030 for Ecosystem Restoration. While we go about this over the coming years,, may we remember that it was the Human Psyche that caused the degradation of ecosystems. Hence it is vital that we understand the Human Psyche and how to navigate it. Only then can we successfully restore our ecosystems.

Should We Stay Connected All the Time?

Stay Connected! Stay Connected! That is very much what we hear since social media and whatsapp made their appearance.

Isn’t it strange, that of late as we strive and strive to stay connected or to reconnect the moment we think we have had enough of controls imposed upon us, we are being compelled time and again to isolate ourselves?

For the time being we still have digital connection to stay connected, even if we are physically disconnected. Ah, but what IF even that goes?
